The Rockhampton Grammar School is seeking a passionate and highly skilled Vocational Trainer and Assessor to join our team in delivering a Certificate III in Agriculture to our students.

The successful candidate must hold a current Trainer and Assessor qualification.

This position is open to candidates looking for either a part-time or full-time role, commencing in Term 1, 2025.

The Rockhampton Grammar School is proud to be a leading provider of Agricultural Education in Queensland. With our own demonstration farm and access to a commercial cattle herd at Belmont Station, we deliver a Certificate III in Agriculture as part of a larger paddock-to-plate food education programme.

Key duties and responsibilities

The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years and is Queensland’s largest boarding school. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 143 years. The School has a total enrolment of over 1,400 (Prep to Year 12) students who are exposed to our broad curriculum, giving effect to our commitment of Grow in Character and Scholarship.

POSITION TITLE:   Vocational Trainer & Assessor (Agriculture)

DEPARTMENT:     Secondary

CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, Full-Time, Term-time, Permanent

REPORTS TO:    Head of Department

The primary responsibility of the Vocational Trainer Assessor is to develop, prepare, deliver, assess and evaluate units of competence whilst ensuring that contractual and compliance requirements for the delivery of programs are met in accordance with The Training and Assessment Strategy (TAS) as supplied by the RGS Registered Training Organisation or such other contracted RTO employed by RGS.

The Vocational Education Trainer and Assessor will:

  • Deliver structured, flexible, relevant and interesting training sessions and assist all learners regardless of level to achieve their training goals. 
  • Ensure all training resources are current and are compliant.
  • Liaise and collaborate with the Head of Vocational Education to ensure compliance with the RTO requirements.
  • Use teaching and assessment strategies that are fair, valid, current and sufficient.
  • Develop and review training and assessment materials and resources.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain individual training plans to meet the individuals learning style and level of skills and knowledge.
  • Manage risk in accordance with the current legislative workplace health and safety guidelines and workplace policy.
  • Prepare for, conduct and document both training delivery and assessment procedures, using approved Training and Assessment Strategy (TAS).
  • Complete and maintain all training records accurately, document assessment results and submit to the appropriate Manager upon assessment for input into student management system.
  • Evaluate the training program, retaining written feedback for review and discussion with the appropriate Manager.
  • In conjunction with the appropriate Manager, resolve any complaints or incidents in accordance with School grievance procedures, documenting incidents and outcomes.
  • Participate in moderation/validation sessions as required.
  • Report to and inform the appropriate Manager in regard to student welfare, student attendance and course progress.
  • Participate in internal and external contractual audits if applicable and as required by the Federal and State Training Authorities and undertake follow up actions as required with the appropriate Manager.
  • Monitor and maintain training operations in line with the rules, regulations and accreditation procedures for the appropriate industry and school.
  • Maintain vocational and industry currency as well as currency of qualifications.
  • Other duties as directed by the Head of Department: Agriculture.

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

The School takes child protection seriously, and as a staff member or volunteer of The Rockhampton Grammar School, you are required to meet the behaviour standards outlined in our Practice and Behaviour Guidelines. You will receive a copy of these guidelines as part of the induction process.

Therefore, as a part of your duties and responsibilities, you are also required to:

  • Ensure that your interactions with children and young people are positive and safe;
  • Provide adequate care and supervision of children and young people in your charge;
  • Act as a positive role model for children and young people;
  • Report any suspicions, concerns, allegations or disclosures of alleged abuse to management;
  • Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;
  • Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;
  • Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks, qualification check and professional registration checks.

REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

  • Industry currency relevant to the training package and the Units of Competency being delivered:
    • Experience in mustering and carrying out routine livestock husbandry procedures;
    • Knowledge of animal welfare requirements;
    • Knowledge of regionally significant animal health issues and experience in implementing animal health control programs in livestock;
    • Experience in operating two-wheel motorbikes under variable environmental conditions;
    • Experience in operating tractors;
    • Skills in constructing and maintaining rural fencing;
    • Knowledge of work health and safety, animal welfare and biosecurity legislation and codes of practice;
    • Knowledge of environmentally sustainable work practices.
  • Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Power Point;
  • Proficient in the use of TASS, desired but not essential;
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES 

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116);
  • Certificate III in Agriculture (or related industry relevant qualification);
  • Current First Aid and CPR Accreditation;
  • Qualified in the Units of competency being delivered, or equivalent;
  • Agricultural Chemicals Distribution Control (ACDC) Licence;
  • Working with Children Check (Blue Card);
  • Police Check;
  • Safeguarding Children Checks.
