This position is a part-time, term-time, permanent position working 24 hours per week, over 3 days (Monday - Wednesday).
The Library Assistant will contribute to the provision of quality educational service by supporting the Librarian in ensuring efficient and effective library operation.
The Library Assistant is responsible for the proactive supervision and guidance of student activity in library areas, cataloguing and preservation of the library and materials and working as part of a team under the supervision of the Librarian.
Key duties and responsibilities
The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 143 years. The School has a total enrolment of over 1,400 (Prep to Year 12) students who are exposed to our broad curriculum, giving effect to our commitment of Grow in Character and Scholarship.

POSITION TITLE: Library Assistant
DEPARTMENT: Library
CLASSIFICATION: Part-time, Term-time, Permanent
REPORTS TO: Teacher Librarian
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Be proactive in the supervision and guidance of students in library areas and assist students with independent study and research. Maintain, sort, issue and receive library items such as books, magazines, DVD’s and associated records.
You will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Supervise students in the library environment (Prep – Year 12);
- Work directly with students in the library to provide assistance in facilitating independent learning;
- Give students your full attention whilst you are on supervision duty:
- Undertake administrative and operational tasks associated with the library;
- Be responsible for the storage and maintenance of resources and consumables;
- Assist with the management and stocktaking/inventory of equipment and resources;
- Circulation (books and equipment);
- Sort resources;
- Return books etc. to shelves/storage;
- Create and maintain records, including cataloguing;
- Issue notices to borrowers and chase up overdue books;
- Inspect items for damage and make minor repairs where required;
- Assist students and staff with information enquiries;
- Assist with School functions;
- Undertake duties as directed by Teacher Librarian or their delegate.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks qualification check and professional registration checks.
