The successful candidate will contribute to the provision of a quality educational service by assisting and supporting teachers with the preparation/enhancement of learning materials and associated activities and to support students by implementing a range of teaching and learning strategies such as one-on-one instruction, co-operative learning, scaffolding, modelling and worked examples.

This is a fixed-term position (Maternity Backfill) from 17 January 2025 - 3 December 2025 working 38 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Term-time only).
Key duties and responsibilities
The Rockhampton Grammar School was founded in 1881 and is an independent co-educational day and boarding school, educating and caring for students from Prep to Year 12, as well as the Early Learning Years. The School is the largest independent boarding school in Queensland and the second largest co-educational boarding school in Australia. It is a leading school in regional Queensland and one of the foremost schools in regional Australia. The Rockhampton Grammar School has achieved great success in the academic, cultural, sporting and vocational fields over the past 143 years. The School has a total enrolment of over 1,400 (Prep to Year 12) students who are exposed to our broad curriculum, giving effect to our commitment of Grow in Character and Scholarship.

POSITION TITLE: Teacher Aide (Learning Enrichment Centre)
DEPARTMENT: Secondary
CLASSIFICATION: Full-Time, Term-Time (38 hours per week), Permanent
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Learning Enrichment
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
This position involves the support and delivery of learning assistance to students with special needs and learning difficulties – both in remediation and extension; and to provide administrative support to the Coordinator of Learning Enrichment and classroom teachers.
Duties will include, but not be limited to the following:
- Work directly with students in class to provide assistance in facilitating the learning for students with specific needs as allocated by the Teacher;
- Facilitate small group support to students as allocated by the Teacher;
- Support students with a disability or learning difference;
- Aid in the preparation and delivery of teaching and learning programs within the frameworks in place in the School;
- Assist teachers with learning activities that take place in and out of the classroom;
- Assist with the monitoring, evaluating and reporting of student progress;
- Be responsible for the storage and maintenance of resources and consumables;
- Assist with the management and stocktaking of equipment and resources;
- Administrative assistance duties, including;
- Typing of work programs, worksheets, exams, semester results;
- Duplicate/photocopy teaching materials;
- Maintain Student Data Bases;
- Any other duties as required by the Coordinator of Learning Enrichment.

SAFEGUARDING CHILDREN AND YOUNG PEOPLE

- Maintain valid “working with children” documentation;
- Undergo periodic “national criminal history record” checks;
- Report to management any criminal charges or convictions you receive during the course of your employment that may indicate a possible risk to children and young people.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
The successful applicant will be subject to a “Working with Children Check and Criminal Records Check” where applicable. The School undertakes several screening processes to ensure the appropriate protection of children and young people in its care. This includes reference checks, identity checks, qualification check and professional registration checks.
REQUIRED SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE
- Experience working as a Teacher Aide with students with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities;
- Proficient in the use of the Microsoft Office Suite – Word, Excel, Power Point;
- Proficient in the use of TASS, desired but not essential;
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
REQUIRED LICENCES/CERTIFICATES
- Working with Children Check;
- Police Check;
- Safeguarding Children Online Training Certificate
- Certificate III in Education Support or equivalent previous work experience;
